Maintaining your crop in winter is definitely different from other seasons. Remember: when the cold season starts to move in, the growth above the ground for most plants tends to die off, that is why it is important to weed, mulch and re-do the paths because soil gets eroded as you water your crops. We asked our young people: what is the correct method of watering your plants in winter.
Answer: First, you have to adjust watering according to the weather, bear in mind: mulching that we added ensures that moisture in the soil is kept and also protects plant’s roots from the cold. You water less when using mulch because you don’t want to drown your crops. Our children are enjoying the extra time they are spending during June holiday break, in the gardens.

This month PCH commemorated the Soweto uprising which happened 46 years ago. This year the children taught each other about the iconic image of Zolile Hector Pieterson. Who was he? he was a 13-year-old boy who died when the police opened fire on the gathered students who were protesting the enforcement of teaching in frikaans. The photo was taken by Sam Nzima as Mbuyisa Makhubo carried the wounded Hector alongside Antoinette Sithole who was his sister. This day was a learning curve to all the children, as the day holds a significant era in the lives of South Africans at large. Our Youth Day Celebrations were packed with lots of activities from dancing, singing and poetry reciting.
A huge shout out goes to our programme coordinators, our young people, for the initiative they took in planning a very good event, as well as our
Childcare workers for being their support.

Our June 16th Youth Day celebrations continued …The 17th of June was all about letting our hair down and just enjoying the fun proceedings of the day. Our day started with a special breakfast in the morning organized by our Management, after which preparations for the day were underway. The hall was set for the our sponsored Braai that was being prepared and cooked by Abafwethu Caterers. The children then participated in sports, such as sack race,tug-of-war
and soccer, before enjoying a delicious lunch.
What an amazing day, a huge vote of appreciation goes to the catering team -Abafwethu, Ethekwini Caterers for the lovely meal, water slide and jumping castles.
Last but not least: Thank you, to the sports coordinators for the wonderful day.

Father’s Day is a day of honoring fatherhood and paternal bond as well as looking at the influence of fathers in society. This day is celebrated across the world on various dates. Here’s a look on how we celebrated this day at PCH. The children made cards to all the male staff at PCH which included our security guard, expressing their gratitude for the father figure role that they play in the children’s lives. The day was ended with lunch for all the staff, including females CYCWs who in the children’s lives also play both the role of a mother and father.

To our Tekkie Tax 2022 Partners:
|
|
This year, since Covid, we finally took a leap to redeem ourselves and ordered 1500 Tekkie Tax stickers. We started approaching schools, both new and old ones we have worked with in the past. The response was amazing, despite the current financial climate we face. We then approached companies as well as Malls for permission to set up and fundraise. We are very appreciative to each and every one of you for your support in our 2022 Tekkie Tax campaign.

Transactions made with simplicity. We often encounter people who want to purchase or make a donation on the spot and the problem is always the fact that we don’t have a card machine to complete this transaction. That is why we have a new and quick way to make payment. It’s simple as 123…remember to tap, swipe or insert your card to complete a transaction.
